Camoni Community,

the knowledge and support community

for chronic disease patients

Camoni project was initiated by Prof. M Shani, Gertner Institute Chairman of the Board, as one of the Institutes several activities - all dealing with health promotion by using the most advanced available technologies. Camoni was established as a non- profit organization, a National Project, that aims to empower the patient and his family as well as his caregivers.

Camoni (Hebrew:" like me") is the first Israeli health and medical social network in Hebrew.

Camoni's main focus is the patient with chronic disease and the people surrounding him - caregivers, supporters and families.

The disorders that Camoni targets include heart failure, diabetes, blood pressure disorders, kidney disorders, eating disorders and obesity, spinal cord injuries, and chronic pain.

Camoni network's goal is to empower patients and their caregivers.
The website supplies medical expertise ( knowledge) and communication with individuals with similar medical disorders (social net).


Gertner Institute

Gertner Institute is a national research setting for the study of epidemiology and health policy, striving to influence health policy in Israel and assisting in its development.

Gertner Institute was founded in 1991 by Prof. M. Shani in order to promote extensive epidemiological research on major chronic diseases and to assist in the formulation of national health policy. Prof. M. Shani heads the Institute serving in the role of Chairman of the Executive Committee.

The Israel Center for Disease Control and the Israel National Institute for Health Policy and Health Services Research are both located in the Gertner building. Thereby, Gertner Institute constitutes a focal point for researchers in the field of health policy research.
